2021 Fall Seminar
The Land Pro 2021 Fall Seminar, The Agricultural Economy, Is It Sustainable? will be held on Wednesday, September 8, 2021 and will feature world economist Dan Basse, attorney Kristine Tidgren, and Professor Gary Schnitkey. The seminar is an opportunity to hear presentations from experts regarding the impact of global and domestic demand, weather, and governmental policies on our agricultural sustainability as well as meet with the Land Pro staff. The Seminar will be held in person at Jennifer’s Garden in Morris Illinois.
Dan Basse has been in the commodity business since 1979, providing research and insight around the globe. He founded AgResource Company in 1987 to serve the needs of the United States and world agricultural community. Dan will speak about what the future may hold for agriculture.
Kristine Tidgren is an adjunct assistant professor in the Agricultural Education & Studies Department and the Director for the Center for Agricultural Law and Taxation at Iowa State University. Kristine’s work focuses on studying and interpreting laws impacting the agricultural industry. In particular, she focuses on agricultural taxation. She will provide us with actual examples of where we are now and the financial impact that could be set forth if the proposed changes regarding stepped up basis, inheritance taxes, and 1031 tax deferred exchange pass through the legislative process.
Gary Schnitkey is a professor at the University of Illinois College of ACES, uses Farm Business Farm Management (FBFM) data on revenue and costs to analyze profitability of major field crops and to assess impacts of farm programs and risk management strategies. His research informs farmers of the most profitable rotations and encourages long-term change to impact yield. Gary will speak about the Illinois Society of Professional Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers survey results regarding land value trends and projected lease rent levels for 2022.
